Beware of the purge

Just a quick note to remind everyone that Saturday, Oct. 4th begins the last days of voter registration for the upcoming presidential election in many states.

Not only is it the last chance for new voters to register, it is also the final opportunity for making sure the information elections offices have on file about you is correct.

In recent years elections offices across the country, many with good intentions, have purged the names of millions of voters from election rolls. What this means, however, is that your name may erroneously have been removed.

To ensure your name was not mistakenly purged from county voter lists, please call your local elections office BEFORE registration ends in order to fix any and all inaccurate information.

When you call, and this is important:

  • Be sure you are properly registered
  • Be sure you go to the correct polling place
  • Find out your options about convenient voting, such as obtaining an absentee ballot
  • Find out if you are required to show identification

After you confirm all of this data with the election's office, ask for a sample ballot and review all information about candidates and issues

These steps are crucial in making sure your vote is counted in November.

DON'T SLEEP ON THIS!
